Roles of additives

Lubricant additives have their own set of application in base oils. These are chemical compound that can be added to lubricant to enhance or suppress their properties as per applications. This can also be known as blends which provide functions to a fluid in which it is mixed. To easily get dissolves in a fluid, oil or lubricant, it is used at a specific treat rate. Additives components thus have multifunction which may vary from liquid to liquid. It may easily get dissolved in mineral oil like Bright stock 150 to change its properties.

Most of additives come as a baseline for lubricants to enhance their properties to makes it suitable for certain applications. These are organic or inorganic compound which get dissolved or suspended in oil as solids.

Certain applications of additives:

  • Detergent
  • Metal deactivator
  • Emulsifiers
  • Chelating agent
  • Dyes
  • Waste treatment system
  • Water dilatable
  • Water repellents.

Just like Base oil Sn500; lubricant additives have their own set of principles to be mixed with other fluid components. There must be fixed quantity which must be mixed in a combination of a fluid to enhance or suppress the chemical composition which otherwise would make the fluid inappropriate for any functions.

Additives have three basic roles:
  • They can enhance the existing base oil properties by getting mixed into it. Other than viscosity, it can also enhance other properties of base oil which include its antioxidants, corrosion inhibitors properties.
  • It can also suppress the undesirable base oil properties to make it suitabel for application.
  • Other than pour-point depressants, it also acts as viscosity index (VI) improvers for lubricants such as
  • It imparts new properties to base oils as well.

The additives offer a wide variety of functions and this may include the following:

  • It can extend the boundary lubricity.
  • It can function in extreme pressure (EP).
  • It acts best for inhibiting corrosion.
  • It boosts reserve alkalinity.
  • It may act as emulsification
  • It is antimisting.
  • It is best in antimicrobial pesticide.
  • It may also work as antifoam and deformers.

Being multifunctional it comes with such a variety of effects. It is compatible with different chemicals and helps in building formulation suitable for experiments and research as well. It can go well both with other additives and base fluid like Base oil sn150, low aromatic white spirit suppliers.
