Do You Know the Process of Crude oil production?

Crude oil production is a long term process that has various phases. In short it can be defined as the quantities of oil that is actually extracted from the ground after the final removal of inert matter or impurities. Because the existence of crude oil is beneath the earth surface it is essential to extract it with a well defined process to provide it as a raw product for manufacturing of other products. This may include products like wax, White spirit, base oil sn600, bright stock etc.

When anything is extracted from earth it includes crude oil, natural gas liquids (NGLs) and additives from which crude oil is finally refined with a process. The final Crude oil which is obtained is actually a mineral oil that is a mixture of hydrocarbons. This hydrocarbon exists in its natural origin which is generally yellow to black in colour and is of variable density and viscosity. Extracting of crude oil in finest way is important so that with its essential properties and characteristics it can be used further in other manufacturing units.

 How Is Crude Oil Produced?

The production of crude oil can be done in three ways which may be as follow:

  • Natural production process – In this method wells are drilled into oil reservoirs so that crude oil can be to extracted directly. This is a Natural lift production method that can also be referred as primary method of crude oil production. In this natural process the oil automatically collected at the surface when it is tapped for the first time.
  • Artificial lift production process: In this methods the natural pressure is not sufficient and thus to pump out oil from reservoir artificial lift is used. These are created mechanical pumps which are powered by gas or electricity. This may also be known as secondary production method.
  • Water flood production process – If both the above mentioned process does not work eventually the tertiary oil recovery methods is used. This is enhanced process in which injection of water is penetrated into the reservoir which increases the pressure and force of the oil and makes it come to the drilled shaft. In some cases injecting steam, carbon dioxide and other gases with chemicals is also done into the reservoir for collecting crude oil.
These are general process carried out across the world and Base oil traders in Kuwait also followed these steps for oil extractions.
